I assume from your comments that the FGS Old Scholars' web site has already had some comments made about David. If anyone wishes to contact me about his later life in Nottingham please feel free - my e-mail address is on my blog.I have already had a lovely piece from a gentleman called Geoff Wright. David's family are doing well and slowly re-adjusting!- Mary and David had moved into a small retirement bungalow only a few weeks before he died so although it is sad that David hardly lived there it has given his wife, Mary, a focus for the coming weeks - this weekend my wife took her out into Nottingham as they hunted for new wallpaper for the bathroom! She is looking to the future.
Regards,
Tony Beale Tony Bealehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00978321300348757188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8045032707031687266.post-12837130448325943172012-09-08T22:43:22.555+01:002012-09-08T22:43:22.555+01:00Fletwood Grammar School 1940-1946

Thanks to Dick for bringing this to our attention and to giving us a reference to Tony Beale's eulogy, though that's an inadequate word for this moving record of the time he shared with Dave. Please read it.

I have a different perspective on Dave, since I was his Patrol Leader in FGS Scouts and, later, ASM of the Troop. I saw him growing up as a young lad in a group of pals, including Ken Adams, who really were “trusty, loyal, helpful,------” and enthusiastically heading along the right path to get the most out of life and put even more back into it. It's clear from the affectionate comments, previously made on the School site, by those who knew him as their teacher, that that was his true vocation and Tony shows us he never changed. I lost touch with Dave, but I wish I could have had the privilege of his company for longer. My deepest sympathy with Mary, Stephen and Greg." Your post reminds me of the necessity, even urgency to keep mailing those cards and to visit her when I can, to express my gratitude while she is still here.E Helena Ehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15872178020249275139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8045032707031687266.post-37246066897042894072012-08-16T22:40:22.186+01:002012-08-16T22:40:22.186+01:00While I still haven't read all of the Shakespe...While I still haven't read all of the Shakespeare, I do very often go back and read and think about the words David wrote in the front of my Complete Works of Shakespeare, which seemed to sum up everything David was, and everything he wished for others too:

"To my Goddaughter, Katie, on the occasion of her 21st Birthday, 14th August.
'Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.'
I wish you a bright, happy and rewarding future.
God bless, David."Katienoreply@blogger.com
